With just one day left before the NBA draft, I wanted to try and look at some of our Pacers possibilities for #10 in a little bit different way.
As all of you know, in all of my draft analysis features I compared the player I was profiling to a modern day player, and to one from the NBA past. Some comparisons were easy to come up with, some were a bit harder. Assuming the players I chose to compare this class of draftees with is an accurate portrayal of their future abilities in the NBA, I thought it would be fun for all of us to try and put the compared players in an order, based on how much we’d like that type of player to be drafted.
Here are the players I either profiled in depth, or mentioned in my “best of the rest” thread from yesterday:
1. Greg Monroe, 2. Patrick Patterson, 3. Avery Bradley, 4. Ed Davis, 5. Hassan Whiteside, 6. Ekpe Udoh, 7. Paul George, 8. Xavier Henry, 9. Al Farouq Aminu, 10. Eric Bledsoe, 11. Gordon Hayward, 12. Larry Sanders, 13. Kevin Seraphin, 14. James Anderson, 15. Luke Babbitt, 16. Dominique Jones, 17. Daniel Orton, 18. Greivas Vasquez, 19. Damien James, 20. Cole Aldrich
Those are the players to choose from in this exercise.
Now, the challenge is, if you think the players I chose were accurate comparisons, is to put the comparable players in the order you feel is best, with the first choice being who you’d like to see most in a Pacers uniform, and continuing down until you are finished.
Here are the current players the above players listed were compared to, in random order: (Assume I mean all these players in their absolute prime, unless otherwise noted)
A. Carlos Arroyo
B. Leon Powe
C. Kwame Brown
D. Paul Millsap (but bigger)
E. Jeff Foster
F. Morris Peterson (rich man’s version)
G. Andre Miller (homeless man’s version)
H. Corey Maggette
I. Josh Powell (Donald Trump version)
J. Theo Ratliff
K. John Salmons
L. Brad Miller (wealthy man’s version)
M. Shannon Brown
N. Shawn Marion
O. Josh Smith
P. Austin Croshere
Q. Tony Allen
R. Luke Walton
S. David Harrison
T. Joel Pryzbilla
So, the challenge I present tonight in the “Compare the Comparables” contest is this: Give me your top 5 guys in order out of that list, then we will match it up with the actual player we are talking about and see where you stand.
Just a little game to play with as we continue to discuss the draft. I will be interested to see how everyone justifies their draft order.
Also feel free to disagree with the actual comparisons themselves if you wish. If you are a Luke Babbitt fan for instance, you might think he is “Chris Mullin” instead of the player I compared him to. If you do disagree, give me the proper player to compare him to in your eyes.
Have fun with this!
